Hi,
So I realize that there are a ton of issues with these washers but this one has not been problematic until recently. We bought this washer in early 2004.
The problem we're having is intermittent and we never see any diagnostic codes displayed. Every few weeks or so, typically during the rinse cycle, the washer will go into a 'start/stop' phase. We hear either the pump or motor (I'm assuming) start for a second, then stop, then start, then stop, etc. The countdown timer will stay at 21 for say 15 minutes or so then finally tick down to 20 and stay there for awhile. Last night it took about 2 hours to complete a cycle, other times it just adds 10-15 minutes to the cycle, but on one occasion it took about 10 hours. After the cycle finally completes, the clothes appear to have been washed properly.
The only other issue we've noticed (and I don't know if this is related) is that every once in awhile dark clothing will have soap stains on them.
So I'm thinking there's maybe something stuck in the pump or somewhere? Maybe a big clog of dog hair? My border collie sheds like crazy. But if there were a clog, shouldn't get some kind of diagnostic error code displayed? Or could this be some electical component that's beginning to fail?
I'm not interested in paying for a repair man at this point but I would like to try and fix it myself if the problem could be narrowed down to a specific component.
Thanks in advance!

- Get shopping advice from experts, friends and the community! Here is the details: This machine was working fine till few months ago, it nutated but did not spin at all. Upon taking the inner washer apart, I found out the plastic ring under/in the leveler got broken. So, I replaced with a new leveler; then problems started. It got stuck at any cycle/timer randomly from washing/ to rinse/spin.
- Here's the repair manual you can download/print and go to the troubleshooting section and see if you can find whats going on: REPAIR MANUAL These calypso's are harder than most to diagnose with a issue like this, but here is a link that you can look at about these.

Sears Kenmore Calypso Manual
Hi,
I have gone through the same problems as most with our Calypso. I have replaced the pump with the newer one about a year or so ago. Recently, the machine has been 'eating' smaller items more than usual. After the initial pump replacement, we have generally been putting smaller items into a bag to prevent the machine sucking in stuff. However, we're human and occasionally forget.
I have purchased a new wash plate that I want to install with the hope that the machine will be less likely to suck in items. However, I have no idea how to take the machine apart enough to replace the wash plate.
I phones Sears' part department and asked for a repair manual for the Calypso, and they sent me an old generic washing machine repair manual. It does not addess the Calypso and seems not to apply to removing the cabinet.
It looks as if, on this Calypso model, the top comes off and hinges toward the back.
From what I can see, it looks like there are two clips on the front of the machine holding the top down. It appears that these clips must be released, and then the whole top of the machine will hinge back. This should be all that I need to remove to replace the wash plate.
However, I have been unable to release the clips, and I don't want to damage the enamel (any more than I've done so far).
So, any help with removing the top of the Calypso will be greatly appreciated. Or whatever I need to do to replace the wash plate.
Thanks!
